Neymar could end up costing €222m

Some interesting quotes came out of the presentation of the economic programme Joan Laporta would implement if he wins Barça's presidential elections.
Joan Oliver, whom Laporta plans to install as the club's CEO, explained that his aim is to increase Barcelona's income "by quite a bit more than 45% over five years", in reference to the growth achieved on Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeu's watch. However, he warned that it would be impossible to repeat the feat of Laporta's first stint at the helm, "in which revenue was tripled".
According to Oliver, it will be difficult to make substantially more money through TV rights or ticket sales. On the other hand, he pinpointed sponsorship as a potential major growth area, mainly in terms of kit deals.
On this note, Oliver mooted two options: for UNICEF to be emblazoned on the front of the shirt again but for another company to fund this to the tune of €30 million, or to search for another commercial sponsor to replace Qatar, which he believes could net Barça up to €70m a year.
Oliver also spoke with some concern about the Neymar-gate saga, stating that the club could keep counting the costs for some time yet: "I think that when you look at the financial prospects for the coming years, there is one question mark: how much Neymar's final price will be. So far it is €100m, but with the legal proceedings that are ongoing, it could rise by €122m in pecuniary liabilities. Neymar could end up costing €222m".
